The number of businesses buying tablet computers for business use is set to double in the first three months of 2011.
Research by ChangeWave shows that in the final quarter of this year, seven per cent of the 1600 firms surveyed bought tablets, but 14 per cent intend to do so early in the new year. This will put increased pressure on support departments to learn an entirely new operating system and platform.
Apple’s iPad, despite being criticised for not being business orientated, is the clear leader with an 82 per cent market share, helped on by the latest version of its operating system which supports multi-tasking and wireless printer. Newer products, such as Dell’s Streak and HP’s Slate have made little impression on Apple’s lead in this sector, being the preferred choice for seven and 11 per cent of buyers respectively.
