A human resources service desk designed to reduce the cost of managing 52000 Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) staff is 10 million pounds over budget and six months behind schedule. The Times newspaper says there is no estimated time for completion, and that MPS may sue, but prefers at this stage to work towards fixing the technical issues blighting the project.
The centralised system, supplied by IT provider Steria, is designed to underpin a call centre with self-service functions to deal with pay, holidays, sick leave and personnel issues for police officers and civilian staff. It was expected the human resources project will save £15 million per year that could be diverted to support front line policing.
“It’s deeply disappointing that this project should be continuing to cost more money at a time when budgets are very tight,” Peter Smyth of the MPS federation is quoted as saying.
