Blackberry to crush Apple in corporate tablet war?
Research in Motion is attempting to consolidate its corporate dominance which is being challenged by Apple as it unveils a Blackberry tablet computer which directly addresses some of the main gripes business users have with the iPad.
The Playbook, a 7-inch tablet due out next year, features a USB connection, HDMI output, multi-tasking, Flash support and HD cameras for taking stills and video conferencing; all functions lacking in Apple’s tablet.
Aimed squarely at the business market, the Playbook will also allow customers to tether their Blackberry phones, giving the Playbook a 3G signal, and the ability to sync calendars and email between the devices. It will boast a 1Ghz processor and a bespoke operating system.
The iPad exceeded expectations when launched earlier this year, with sales passing three million units and analysts observing that it has cannibalised sales from the netbook market, and a new version is widely expected next year.
