Green movement provides boost to IT support
Will squeezing every last drop out of technology investment elevate the role of service desk?
Businesses are putting more value into IT support departments as they attempt to extract maximum value from technology investments and improve their green credentials.
A report from market analyst Datamonitor – Can Green IT Bloom in an Economic Downturn – says that tighter budgets have driven the adoption of virtualisation and improved asset lifecycle management as ways of weathering relentless budget cuts. With environmental legislation likely to force further green compliance in the next few years, the old days of regular tech refreshments are likely to be forgotten as organisations try to get the best value from their IT spend.
“Cost-effective green IT is likely to increase in demand. As such, organisations no longer regard green IT and cost-effective IT as being mutually exclusive. This represents a significant paradigm shift and bodes well for the future evolution of the global green IT market” says Rhonda Ascierto, senior analyst at Datamonitor.
