Anything Google can do…
…Microsoft will try to do better, as epic software battle progresses.
With Google attempting to muscle into the operating system market, as reported here, Microsoft has countered quickly by announcing plans to make its ubiquitous Office suite available as online software.
The launch of cut-down versions of Word, Excel and Powerpoint in the SaaS (Software as a Service) mode would compete with Google Docs, a free, online set of services with similar functionality to Office. The software will be made free to Microsoft Live customers.
Microsoft also launched a new search engine in June as it attempts to maintain its marketshare which is being threatened by Google.
