IT to lead us out of recession

Business leaders agree that effective use of technology has helped them stave off the impact of recession.

74 per cent of the 300 executives interviewed by BT Global Services believe that IT has protected them from the downturn, with 42 per cent seeing investment into next year as central to their business growth and cost cutting initiatives.

Rather than penny-pinching around IT, economic difficulties have sharpened awareness as to the importance of technology investment, with two-thirds of respondents stating that faster networks, flexible working and managed IT services are priorities which rank alongside sales, product launches and improved staff training in the next 18 months.

Mark Quartermaine, president of BT Global Services UK Markets, says it is encouraging that UK businesses feel the economy is on the road to recovery. “The way they do business has already changed significantly, but the signs are there that continued investment in new technology and processes will help them do more with less and remain competitive on the global stage.”
