UK websites letting the cookies crumble
More than a third of the most popular UK websites have failed to comply with the EU directive concerning cookie control and storage that became law three months ago, according to research conducted by online privacy software provider TRUSTe.
The study analysed over 200 websites, including consumer, finance, and travel brands, finding that 12 per cent had implemented prominent privacy notices and robust cookie controls, with 51 per cent enabling limited user settings and minimal notification.
“Based on our analysis it is clear that many companies have started to take the EU Cookie Directive seriously and devoted time and resources to implement a compliance solution that helps their users control the tracking activity on their site,” says TRUSTe CEO Chris Babel.
