Users are moving away from traditional PCs to tablet computers for fulfilling certain tasks, with research from Gartner finding that 81 per cent of respondents now prefer to use mobile devices, rather than desktop machines, to check email.
Gartner found that users purchased tablets in preference to PCs because of convenience and form factor, however 45 per cent refuse to share mobile devices with other people, treating tablets with the same privacy as personal mobile phones.
“The ongoing convergence of previously distinct devices seems to be turning the market for consumer devices from hardware-centric to usage-centric,” says Gartner research vice president Carolina Milanesi.
