Transport company Wilts & Dorset has bucked the NFC trend other companies are adopting for simplifying the process of paying fares, opting instead for virtual tickets displayed on customers’ smartphones.
Commuters are able to download an app, supported by both Android and iOS, and pay by debit or credit card for a range of journeys, then simple show drivers a ticket on their phones. Wilts & Dorset believe this will reduce waiting times at stops by as much as half, along with saving customers up to 40 per cent compared to those using traditional paper tickets.
“We believe the incentive to pre pay will encourage more people to save time and money for their commuting and leisure travel,” says Wilts and Dorset commercial manager Nikki Honer.
