A move to consolidate and improve IT within the UK’s police service has seen the creation of police ICT company ltd, with the mission of streamlining 2000 systems used by the nation’s 43 forces.

The company, a joint venture between the police authorities and the home office, plans to drive collaboration between forces and reduce service costs, while freeing chief officers from in-depth involvement with IT management.  It also will use its combined buying power to drive better deals with suppliers.

“We need a new, more collaborative approach and greater accountability, utilising expertise in IT procurement and freeing police officers to focus on fighting crime,” says the Minister for Policing and Criminal Justice Nick Herb.
