Cybercrime is an epidemic affecting one million people ever day and costing the world economy £172 billion a year in lost time spent dealing with attacks.
A report by Norton also discovered that growth in the mobile device market has also brought additional issues, with 10 per cent of owners experiencing cybercrime on their devices. Norton says the number of mobile device vulnerabilities grew by 42 per cent last year.
“Cybercrime is much more prevalent than people realize. Over the past 12 months, three times as many adults surveyed have suffered from online crime versus offline crime, yet less than a third of respondents think they are more likely to become a victim of cybercrime than physical world crime in the next year,” says Norton cybersecurity advisor Adam Palmer.
