Windows is still the preferred choice for 79 per cent of the world’s desktops, despite inroads made in recent years by Linux and Mac operating systems according to research from Gartner.
Growth of 9 per cent in 2010 means that Microsoft is easily maintaining its market lead. Apple’s impressive growth of 16 per cent must be put in context with the impact this has had on its market share, which stands at 1.7 per cent of the $30.4 billion operating system market.
