Public sector IT managers are seeing their influence grow at a strategic level as local authorities entrust technology to offset budget reductions, according to a study from Socitm.
Mirroring findings recently reported by SD360, the research found that cutting the cost of service delivery is the main focus of public sector ICT strategies over the next few years. This means there will be increased dependence on technology such as customer self-service as a way of achieving.
“The influence of ICT continues to rise as more services are directly delivered through lower cost ICT-assisted channels,” says Socitm president Glyn Evans. “However, with greater dependence on ICT, organisations must ensure processes and procedures are kept up to date, and greater attention is paid to accuracy, provenance and security of information.”
