Small businesses failing basic security tests
Failure to encrypt their wifi networks is putting one in four small businesses at a constant security risk according to tests conducted by Sophos.
The research, conducted in London, found that areas with multiple small businesses were the worst offenders, with residential zones fairing somewhat better. However Sophos collected the data within the confines of the law, and warns that cybercriminals have more powerful tools and methods than legally allowed.
“Pretty much every wireless device can be configured to use secure wireless networking out of the box, so poorly configured devices show a lack of awareness rather than a lack of capability to be secure,” says Sophos director James Lyne.
